Win/Loss Analysis
Until course week 5 we should create a Win/Loss-interview and interview potential (or lost) customers.

Most of the questions in the Win/Loss-template assume that we have a company and that the interviewee has already bought the product (or has made the decison not to).
As we don’t have a company and therefor no one has bought our product, I’d would like to ask:
What exactly are we supposed to do with a Win/Loss-interview?

Hi Benjamin

Thanks for asking about this on the forum.

You should modify the win/loss analysis questions to your use case. If you decided to create a business plan for an existing open source project, try to look for some potential users of this software. If you can’t find them or if you decided to work on a new open source project, reach out to potential users of such software products or services. In that case, you won’t be able to study customers who decided to buy or not to buy your product, but you can get data about user needs, their expectations, including pricing expectations, perceived value, competition, etc. Based on this, you can start making and documenting your assumptions and conducting a win/loss analysis.

Feel free to update and customize the win/loss analysis interview questions. These are only templates and examples, so adjust them to your case and make sure to collect good qualitative data by talking to many potential users. We want the students to understand the user needs and expectations well in the early foundational stage of research for your business plans. Even if you don’t have a product yet, you should already form an idea about your potential value proposition either based on new or existing open source projects.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have follow-up questions.

Cheers, Nick
