Organization of the AI-II Lecture and Tutorials (online)
Dear Students,

it seems more and more likely that the lecture Artificial Intelligence II will not be held physically, i.e. in a lecture room with students and professor present, at least for the first weeks of the semester.

This only means that we will have to organize an online version of it as best we can:

The lecture AI-II, its tutorials, and exams will take place (almost) as planned!

The organization of the lectures may change over the semester as the constraints and general regulations change. Here is our current plan.

Lectures: We will use the existing (english) lecture recordings on http:.//fau.tv for the lectures from SS18. And we will keep to the schedule of SS18: I will announce that separately on http://kwarc.info/teaching/AI and link to the video lectures.

Digital Office Hours (new): I will offer a possibility to ask questions to the lectures (probably via an open zoom group) at a fixed time. After all, you cannot ask them in the course.

Tutorials: they will (current plan) be held via zoom, mostly like the presence-tutorial in the last semesters. We will experiment what works best. We are considering making podcasts of worked examples additionally. Katja Bercic will post more details as they become apparent.

If you have questions, please ask them by replying to this thread.

AI-II first lectures
Dear Students,

here some more details for the first lectures:

  • as always, you can find the course materials unter https://kwarc.info/teaching/AI. In particular the course notes at https://kwarc.info/teaching/AI/notes.pdf.

  • For the lecture, we will make use of the recordings from SS18 under https://fau.tv. The first lecture of AI-II is at https://www.video.uni-erlangen.de/clip/id/8954.

  • I will adopt the sequencing of lectures from SS18 (adapted to the SS20 dates). This will determine the scheduling of the course and in particular the homework assignments, which will happen in sync. The corresponding provisional schedule is listed in the notes.

  • Note that with the shift from Thursday lectures to Tuesday dates, we will have more lecture slots, so there
    will be date slippage.

AI-II is not available on Studon
Dear Prof. Michael Kohlhase,

I wanna choose AI-II but can’t find it on Studon. Will it be available later or are there any other ways to choose it? Thanks!

EDIT:

Wrong semester, soooorry, it was late yesterday!

More organizational Details
Here are (some of) the missing details on the organizatin:

I said that I would offer a Q/A session so that you can ask the questions you still have in the courses. The only time this really makes sense during the scheduled lecture times, i.e. tuesday 12:15 - 13: 50. This is the only time I can be sure that you will all have time.

We will conduct the Q/A sessions in ZOOM (details below) and I will start off without a password or waiting room and we can see how this works. If we get too many zoom-bombings, then we may have to change that.

The idea is that you will have watched the lecture video beforehand and have questions. NOTE that the lecture Q/A is not for questions about the homework assignments and your solutions. That is what the tutorial sessions are for.

It is perfectly OK, to ask questions on previous lectures. From my side it is completely fine to enter without video and to lurk without asking questions (to get the answers for the questions of other’s). I will not record the meetings but I will (try to) log Q/A on the forum.

The next weeks will show whether we will need this Q/A channel; note that questions on the forum are still OK and in some sense preferred. And you still have the tutorials which are great venues for Q/A.

Unfortunately, I have a (mandatory) hiring committee meeting at 12:45, so today’s Q/A session will be quite short.

It seems that the lectures for this week have surpassed the available script at https://kwarc.info/teaching/AI/Slides.pdf. Could you please provide the following slides?
Thanks a lot!
