Additionally I want to refer to some links that deal with interesting stuff mentioned today.
First https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sussman_anomaly is a good example why Planing is not trivial.
Secondly, http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cs61b/fa14/ta-materials/apps/ab_tree_practice/ is nice tool to visualize how Alpha-Beta Pruning works in detail. (http://homepage.ufp.pt/jtorres/ensino/ia/alfabeta.html is also good for this purpose)
